When you create healthy boundaries, you give yourself the space to thrive. It’s not selfish, it’s self-care. By saying “yes” to yourself, you become more present and loving to those around you.

Two wonderful opportunities to join me in person in September.

I'll be taking a little break from Mother's Circles after this one, because....well, life's been hectic and I need a little break 😉 (I know you get it). But I can't wait to create a beautiful, safe and welcoming space for the women who come and join me on the 15th for 2 glorious hours of conversation, reflection, guided meditation, lots of "me too" moments and of course, tea. ☕ Don't miss out!

Then on the 30th, I'm delighted to be the speaker at Boronia Library's Ovarian Cancer Fundraiser. The topic we've chosen for the night is moving from self-criticism to compassion. It's a topic that comes up with so many of my clients and that I'm often asked about. Come and deepen your understanding of where that self-critical voice comes from, what it's trying to achieve and how to cultivate a kinder, more supportive voice towards yourself. There will be door prizes, treats and it's only $2 to attend (unless you want to donate more to the cause).

Do you worry about disappointing or letting people down?

This is one of the most common reasons that women don’t set boundaries.

We’ve been taught that we need to avoid disappointing people to be acceptable and “good”.

But often, when we DON’T set boundaries we ARE still letting someone down. We are letting ourselves down.

This can be tolerable for a while, but if we keep ignoring our own needs, eventually we won’t be able to ignore our stress levels, overwhelm and resentment.

We need to accept that our boundaries may disappoint others, but that doesn’t mean that they are wrong, irrelevant or unimportant.

Your needs matter too.

A question I often ask my clients...

What is enough?

What is enough doing/productivity to allow you to rest?
What is enough achievements so you can feel proud and successful?
What is enough tidying to deem your house acceptable?
What is enough trying to enable you to accept you've done your best in a situation that is not all within your control?
What is enough giving before you can say no?

What is enough?

We're often so used to striving for more, feeling like we can always do better, try harder and try again, that we don't clearly understand what our limits are or whether there is actually a point where we can say, "I've done enough".

Sometimes we realise that the answer to this question does not actually support our wellbeing or align with our values.

The good news is, that at any point in time, we can redefine what is enough.

It's such a worthwhile question to ask.

“Can we just have a day to relax and read and sw

“Can we just have a day to relax and read and swim in the hotel pool? I would love that.”

This was my son’s request yesterday as we ended day 4 of our trip to Vietnam.

The three hour time difference is not enough to throw you out completely but it does mean that he is wide awake by 6am and cranky and exhausted right at dinner time.

He’s always been a great little traveller and so while we have adjusted the way we travel a bit since he joined us, we still like to see and do as much as possible.

But he knows himself so well. He knows he feels so peaceful and calm when there are no demands on his time, when he can lose himself in a story, be in water and let himself follow his desires.

He knows he needs down time.

It makes me wonder, did I know that too as a child? Because I certainly seemed to forget as I got older.

Of course, he’s right. We need downtime, quiet, stillness and time to follow our desires. Modern society sees this as unproductive but really, in terms of our health and wellbeing, it is incredibly productive.

We haven’t abandoned our plans for today but we’re taking it a bit slower with a leisurely morning (he’s reading in bed now while I sit on the balcony and take in the warm air and the beautiful view).

Can you create a little pocket of down time today? 5 - 15 mins is a great starting point if it feels hard. 🩷

(Travel tip - get your book loving kids an e-reader! He would have wanted to bring at least 15 books on this trip and with the Kindle he has many more than that, without adding to our luggage weight.)
